About Anakbayan Philadelphia

Anakbayan Philadelphia’s “No Saviors, We Free Ourselves” exhibition at Vox Populi addresses the ongoing struggle for true independence in the Philippines and across the Filipino diaspora as we confront the presence of US military on Philippine land and sea. We recognize that this struggle is not unique to the Philippines, but part of an international movement for liberation combatting the same root issue of US imperialism. We unite with our kababayans (compatriots) and comrades through the grief and joy in our shared struggle. In this cultural solidarity night, we celebrate how art and tradition are essential to revolutions everywhere. With an evening full of drumming, music, and martial arts, we’re excited to feature the creative works of Philadelphia artists and express that art is inherently political!
