OPEN CALL for Vox Populi’s 21st Annual Juried Show
For Vox’s 21st annual Juried exhibition, "here where the body knows it can hurt", we invite artwork in conversation with labor histories/ ritual gathering/ agriculture/ gastronomy/ sensory heritage/ beekeepers/ hospitality trades/ industry/ Reinvigoration/ the shape of stamina/ Open to the Book of Genesis/ make some edits/ What does inheritance taste like?/ biological ceremony/ The absurdity (perhaps) of ordering a latte at a time such as this one.
In the labor spirit of this show Vox also urges submissions from unconventional applicants, individuals who may not identify as an artist in the traditional sense, but may have a unique perspective as result of experience in horticulture, food/drink service, hospitality, farm work, delivery, labor organizing, etc. Pick up a camera or a pen or a whisk or a drill and make something with teeth.
***personal artistry may include demonstrations, recipe design, tasting menus, brewing ceremonies, performance, satellite proposals, etc.

Eligibility:
Artists are invited to submit a short statement, resume and work samples (including images, video files, audio files or short texts). All submitted work must be available and ready for exhibition, if chosen. We ask that you DO NOT submit the same work to more than one open call.
Application Fee: $25.00

Juror: Gregory Donell Parker
Gregory Donell Parker is a writer, videographer, spatial designer, and stylist currently based in Philadelphia, PA. He is an artist member of Vox Populi gallery collaborating on in house exhibitions and other curatorial projects. His work kneads themes of obedience, glamor rituals, siblinghood, body memory, geomancy, queer poetics, and traditional Black American iconography. Also pours a nastyyyy latte.
FAQs
SALES:
Vox takes no commissions for sales of artwork. Inquiries will be directed to contact the artist.
LIABILITY:
Works will be insured in line with Vox Populi’s policy and conditions while at the gallery for the duration of the exhibition. Additional insurance, including during transit, is the responsibility of the artist. We urge you to consider the high-traffic, DIY nature of Vox’s exhibition environment when submitting your works. Unframed artworks will not be insured.
SHIPPING:
Artists are responsible for shipping artwork (or delivery and pick-up) to and from Vox Populi according to the calendar above.
INSTALLATION:
All work MUST be received ready for installation with proper hanging devices ATTACHED and thorough instructions where necessary.
AGREEMENTS:
Vox Populi reserves the right to photograph accepted works for publicity and educational purposes. Vox Populi reserves the right to reject works that differ from submitted images. Vox Populi reserves the right to reject any work that does not align to our Values. Vox Populi is not responsible for works remaining at the gallery after the pick-up date.
