ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The Reanimation Library is a small, independent library based in Brooklyn, new York. It is a collection of book that haven fallen out of mainstream circulation. Outdated and discarded, they have been culled from thrifted stores, stoop sales, and throw-away piles across country and given new life as resources materials for artist, writers, and other cultural archeologists.
Center City Branch is a temporary manifestation of the Reanimation Library that will be open to the public for three weeks in August at Vox Populi. It will be assembled from books found in thrift stores and libraries across Philadelphia will be available for artists to work during regular gallery hours. The books at Center City Branch will not circulate, but the library will be equipped with a small photocopier and scanner to facilitate text and image harvesting. Over the course of the show, projects are created from the library will be presented din the gallery space.
A small photocopied catalog will be produced to document the books in the collection and the work produced during the show.
