ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

In Pleasant Tense is a tapestry, a fragmented tableau, made up of fragments of contemporary culture and historical, imperial imagery. Images that intimate the trappings of empires merge into, incorporate, and ultimately are transformed by the natural world. Wylie investigates the material process of assemblage. Time, place and essence slip back and forth to crystallize an emergent condition. The eventual and inevitable collapse of the components of this system, including the physical structure or the object itself, creates the flux that is at the core of the work.
