Black Box Presents: Power Collapse Memory

Black Box Presents: Power Collapse Memory

In Partnership with Batikh Batikh بطيخ بطيخ

7/25 FREE Doors at 6pm

As part of Vox Populi’s Black Box Presents series, Batikh Batikh (BB) invites you to an evening of experimental film and community gathering on Friday, July 25th. This free screening features experimental non-fiction and art video made by women and queer artists of the South West Asian North African (SWANA) region and its diaspora. The short film program, Power Collapse Memory, features works that explore the power dynamics of imperialism and interpersonal relationships, as well as filmmakers’ autobiographical experiences with memory, history, legacy and lineage. Together, these works exemplify the power of inherited cultural knowledge as a tool for resistance.

About Batikh Batikh بطيخ بطيخ

Batikh Batikh is a pop-up cinema and gallery that centers South-West Asian North African (SWANA) women and queer artists. BB focuses on bringing SWANA films to Philadelphia and helping local queer and women artists acquire resources for solo exhibitions. Based on an anti-capitalist art model, these screenings and exhibitions provide programming that showcases SWANA and queer joy outside the Western gaze.

About Black Box Presents

Made possible through lead support by the William Penn Foundation, Black Box Presents is a yearlong series transforming our Black Box Performance Theater into a platform for 12 community arts organizations, each curating their own monthly event. This initiative amplifies experimental music, dance, film, and spoken word while ensuring free, accessible programming that strengthens Philadelphia’s creative networks.
