Lily Xie
Lily Xie is an artist who plays with time. Through the careful construction of animated worlds, Lily explores memory, desire, and futurism. Her stop motion animations manipulate real materials to conjure portals, drawing on the idea that the past and future are not fixed, but something we actively construct in present time. This fluid engagement with time also informs Lily's social practice, where she facilitates visual art projects with grassroots organizers and frontline communities to collectively reimagine space, history, and culture. Lily was in the most recent cohort of Artists-in-Residence for the People’s Budget Office and a member of Creative Wildfire, a national group of artists building a Just Transition. Lily’s work has been shown at Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington, Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, Wiesner Art Gallery, and Tiger Strikes Asteroid, and included in animation festivals internationally including Fest Anča, Transfiguration International Film Festival, DC Independent Film Festival, and more.
