Mark Stockton

Mark Stockton is a draughtsman invested in the intimacy of the hand-made. He is fascinated with a vernacular of American pop culture imagery. Inspired by historical drawings and prints, he employs portraiture to depict contemporary icons with complex -sometimes tragic- life stories. His practice involves time-intensive traditional techniques, adding a level of investment to fleeting subjects. Through this labor, he reproduces the synthetic product of media imagery through intimately human means.
